Unlocking Effective Reading Instruction

Many teachers recognize the limitations of traditional teacher preparation programs in adequately preparing them to teach the intricate skill of reading. Unlike speaking, which children acquire naturally, reading must be explicitly taught. Our mission is to cultivate proficient readers who can comprehend what they read. MaxScholar offers a explicit, systematic, and multisensory methodology for instructing phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing. Our program incorporates the renowned Orton-Gillingham approach, engaging visual, auditory, and kinesthetic modalities in every lesson. Participants gain access to our instructional resources, enabling students to practice and master these vital skills.

Orton-Gillingham Training

Our Science of Reading program is a comprehensive 40-hour course that delves into the scientific underpinnings of reading acquisition and the implementation of a comprehensive instructional approach. Our training aims to empower educators with the knowledge, support, and tools to make an immediate impact on their students' learning. We strive to provide teachers with fresh skills and insights to enhance their effectiveness in teaching reading to all students.

Each training session equips teachers to implement the Orton-Gillingham approach in their classrooms and offers the opportunity to become certified in this powerful method.

MaxScholar Level 1 Orton-Gillingham Training

This course contrasts phonics and whole language approaches to teaching reading. It covers phonological awareness, explicit and systematic multisensory phonics instruction, reading comprehension strategies, fluency development, spelling instruction, vocabulary acquisition, and written expression. Participants will receive a certificate of course completion, 7 complimentary follow-up sessions, and unlimited coaching throughout the year.

$895 for training + $295 for instructional materials.

Includes monthly follow-ups and unlimited teacher coaching.

MaxScholar Level 1 Orton-Gillingham Training with Certification

This course encompasses the standard Level 1 training but adds a year-long practicum. Participants must submit lesson plans for each Orton-Gillingham component, videos of themselves applying the approach with students, and other assignments. Each submission is reviewed by a trained instructor, who provides detailed feedback. Upon successful completion of all requirements, participants will receive Levy Learning Center Orton-Gillingham Level 1 Certification.

$1500 for training + $295 for instructional materials.

MaxScholar Level 1 Orton-Gillingham Training 
Including the Science of Reading

This workshop is our premier program for which we have received formal accreditation by the prestigious International Dyslexia Association (IDA). This is a 3 full-day workshop, followed by 9 two-hour additional programs and includes unlimited coaching.

  Topics covered include:

  Day 1: Introduction to structured literacy, OG lesson plans, phonemic & phonological awareness, dyslexia awareness.   

Day 2: Reading fluency strategies, fluency assessment (miscue analysis), teaching reading comprehension (dyslexia & reading, reading & language, models of reading, research-based comprehension strategies).   

Day 3: Increasing reading vocabulary, graphic organizers, vocabulary tiers, morphology, written language, and practice writing a lesson plan. Attendees who complete the workshop will receive MaxScholar Level 1 Orton-Gillingham Certification.
